What was your favorite memory of this trip? Spending time with my classmates and getting to know the people of Tanzania
What was the most difficult thing you experienced? Physically, climbing Mt. Kilamanjaro, but clinically it was difficult observing the doctor perform a procedure on a male patient to enable catheterization.
What was the one thing you wished you were better prepared for? In the clinic, suturing. In the city I wish I would have known the language better.
Any tips for future volunteers… (clothing, travel, personal items, donations, sightseeing etc) Bring toilet paper or better yet wet wipes.
How would you describe/rate your experience working with the ABV staff in the USA? I believe it was a positive experience
How was the local ABV Director and the support provided in-country? The director Nelson and his staff did a good job helping everyone and providing education on the culture of Tanzania
Personal Paragraph (ABV Program Testimonial): This was my first time to the continent of Africa and I had no expectations coming in, but the ABV staff made the transition for me as smooth as possible.
Are you willing to speak to other potential ABV volunteers? Yes
