How was the local ABV Director and the support provided in-country?
Beatriz was fantastic! We refer to her as our “guardian angel”. She made our experience enjoyable with her great attention to details.
What was the most surprising thing you experiences?
The friendliness of the local people and the unconditional love from the children. Machu Pichu is a site not to be missed!
Any tips for future volunteers… (clothing, travel, personal items, donations, sightseeing etc)
Dress in layers because the tempertaures varies greatly during the day. Bring a raincoast. You need comfortable shoes you can walk miles in.
Bring a money belt. Use a backpack instead of luggage. Get a map of your location as soon as you arrive. Carry hand sanitizers with you. Carry a copy
of your passport and important phone numbers with you. Bring a shammy towel with you rather than cotton for a quick dry!
Personal Paragraph (ABV Program Testimonial): A Broader View was and is an incredibly organized organization. They were very prompt in answering & tending to your needs. They refer you to only trustworthy tour operators & language classes locally, and clean restaurants. I will use ABV again.
How would you describe your accommodations, meals, security (host family)? The accommodations wee much nicer than we had expercted. Our home cooked meals were delicious and we always felt safe in our home and neighborhood.
What was your favorite memory of this trip? On the last day of the volunteer project the children in our class made a homemade care and gave it to me with a hug and kiss from all of them. Also, the local market was amazing in so many ways!
How would you describe/rate your experience working with the ABV staff in the USA? Excellent! Five stars! I was absolutely impressed by how well run and prompt this organization is run. The communication was excellent.
Are you willing to speak to other potential ABV volunteers? Absolutely.
