How would you describe/rate your experience working with the ABV staff in the USA?
I dealt with Sarah for organizing the work. Sarah was very professional and very helpful. She answered all my emails promptly which was also very helpful in planning my trip. Thank you Sarah.
How was the local ABV Director and the support provided in-country?
Magdalena picked me up from the hostel I was staying at in Cusco and took me to the volunteer hostel. When we had the briefing she provided good information about the work which was very useful. She was friendly and answered all questions I had.
What was your favorite memory of this trip?
The whole trip was a favorite memory. My best memory was the people I met while at the Reserve. Also, the work was well out of my comfort zone with the labour work in the forest but I enjoyed it.
What was the most difficult thing you experienced?
Leaving the Reserve.
What was the one thing you wished you were better prepared for?
There were tasks on the Reserve such as cutting bamboo. Perhaps a mention of those tasks on the program summary may have been helpful. I was prepared with all my vaccinations but perhaps a list of vaccinations required for the forest from ABV would help a new volunteer that may not have any knowledge about what vaccinations to get.
Any tips for future volunteers… (clothing, travel, personal items, donations, sightseeing etc)
No tips, except it’s a really enjoyable experience. I loved it.
Personal Paragraph (ABV Program Testimonial):
From the minute I began to plan this work with my first emails to ABV to my time at the Reserve, I will say that the whole experience was very enjoyable and exciting. I have spoken to those at home about my experience at the Reserve and with ABV and I hope I have generated the interest of others here at home to do what I did. I would love to do this work again. Thanks.
