My Favorite Memory:
Taking pictures of the girls at the orphanage. We had just finished cleaning up the bedrooms and moving all the mattresses when we decided to take the girls photos.
The girls loved it and were all excited to have their pictures taken. They were laughing and posing and trying to get all of their instructors to be in the photos.
I was surprised that….
It was much easier to adjust to a new culture and navigate a new country without being fluent in the language then I thought it would be.
The most difficult thing I experienced was….
There were no difficulties. My host, Maria Elena, did an excellent job of making us feel welcome and comfortable in a new place.
My best received lesson…
People are the same all over the world and just showing a little kindness and patience can overcome any cultural or language differences.
Tip for future volunteers…
Try to experience as much as you can while participating in the program. Do not be afraid to talk to strangers or visit a new place.
Personal Paragraph (Testimonial)
I would highly recommend A Broader View to anyone who wishes to volunteer overseas. The staff in the United States made the procedure easy and the Maria Elena in Peru continued the exceptional attention to our well being. The volunteer work and Spanish lessons were wonderful and they stay and food at the host house were outstanding.
How would you rate your experience working with the ABV staff, both in the USA, and in-country?
I would rate the experience a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest.
How would you describe your accommodation (e: host family, on-site, shared housing etc) The accommodations were very comfortable. The host family was gracious and helped us to adjust quickly and easily. The host family also accommodated my food preferences and the food was delicious. The other volunteers staying at the house were nice and helpful.
Are you willing to peak to other potential ABV volunteers? Yes
