Ernest Volunteer Abroad in Quito, Ecuador

My Favorite Memory:
Playing games with the kids at Hogar!

I was surprised that….
So before I left, I did my own research on Ecuador and pretty much every article I read lamented on how unsafe Quito was, with some articles comparing it to places like Columbia and El Salvador. Well, I am happy to announce that Quito is generally a safe place to live and work; I did not get robbed, pick-pocketed, or stabbed/kidnapped while I was there!!

The most difficult thing I experienced was….
Getting used to the language and the altitude difference!!

Tip for future volunteers… (Clothing, travel, personal items, donations, sightseeing etc)
Make sure you have enough one dollar bills on you because it is really difficult to get change for bigger notes in Ecuador!!

Personal Paragraph (Testimonial)
My experience in Quito was fantastic! I thoroughly enjoyed working with the kids and staff at Nino Hogar, and also loved the awesome hospitality my host family (Laura and Vicente Cordova) bestowed on me. Overall, the experience taught me the importance of living simply so others can simply live!!

Are you willing to speak to other potential ABV volunteers?
Yes, and I am actually considering volunteering again this year in Ghana, my native country!
