Hillary Volunteer Abroad in La Serena, ChileReviewed by Admin on Nov 27Rating:

What was your favorite memory of this trip? Too many to choose! Time spent with my family and friends here. I never felt homesick because everyone make you feel like you belong.
What was the most difficult thing you experienced? The houses are not heated. Figuring out the collective/taxi routes

What surprised you? How advanced Chile is.
Any tips for future volunteers… (clothing, travel, personal items, donations, sightseeing etc)
If you come during their winter/spring (our summer) it is cold. Bring warm clothes. Interact with the locals as much as possible that’s how you learn the culture.
How would you describe/rate your experience with the host family in Chile?
1) Patient with me having limited Spanish.
2) My host mother was a very good cook
3) Extended family I met were very welcoming
Are you willing to speak to other potential ABV volunteers? Yes
