How would you describe/rate your experience working with the ABV staff in the USA? I found signing up for the trip to be incredibly easy. The staff answered all of my questions quickly and clearly.
How was the local ABV Director and the support provided in-country? Elizabeth was very helpful in get me set up in Tanzania. I was also very grateful that the local staff took care of my permit and dealt with the concerns of an unexpected immigration officer visit.
What was your favorite memory of this trip? My favorite memory of the trip is the dance party we had at the orphanage. Nothing made me happier than to see their smiling faces when we dipped and twirled them around.
What was the most difficult thing you experienced? It was difficult to hear some of the stories of the orphans. It certainly put our work and the work of the orphanage into a clearer context, however.
What was the one thing you wished you were better prepared for? I wish I had known that there would actually be an abundance of volunteers. It seems that perhaps maybe there might be other orphanages nearby that needed the assistance more.
Any tips for future volunteers… (clothing, travel, personal items, donations, sightseeing etc) Vitamin supplements!! Often found myself lacking in the proper food categories.
Personal Paragraph (ABV Program Testimonial):
I am eternally grateful for my experience in Tanzania. It is always so inspiring to see so many people doing such great work. I will carry my memories of the orphanage with me for the rest of my life.
Are you willing to speak to other potential ABV volunteers? Yes
