My Favorite Memory: Seeing a male and female wild rhino during the elephant safari in Chitwan.
I was surprised that…. So many people from all around Kathmandu Valley came to Community hospital because of the price. I was also surprised at the fact that it was less than a dollar for a patient to see the general physician, and the fact that this was too expensive for a lot of patients.
The most difficult thing I experienced was…. How crowed the city was. And because there is so many people, the city is very dirty. There is a lot of pollutants in the air and the vehicles do not have a good filter on the exhaust. Every time I blew my nose it was just black because of how dirty the air is.
My best received lesson… The quality of medical care in a third world country. Depending on if a patient can afford to go to a government hospital or the community hospital makes a big difference in the privacy of the patients case.
Tip for future volunteers… (Clothing, travel, personal items, donations, sightseeing etc) Make sure to go sightseeing, it is nice to get out of the valley and into fresh clean air. Also, bring old clothes and shoes to donate to the people.
Are you willing to speak to other potential ABV volunteers? Sure.
