My Favorite Memory:
The best memory I have was the ones I had with my personal group. My very favorite memory was the one time that the waves went down tremendously right outside camp and we all ran to go swimming in the blink of an eye. It was great to have that camaraderie and time together.
I was surprised that….
I was surprised at how few people spoke any English. We didn’t expect many people to speak a lot of English, but the amount of those who spoke no English at all was slightly surprising. We really got to work to learn the language.

The most difficult thing I experienced was….
The most difficult thing I and all my teammates experienced was the elements. It was hot, it was humid, it was hard work, it was dirty, but it was great. Another very difficult part was the communication barrier and by this I don’t mean language. There was a lot of disconnect in communication and it was hard to place where information got lost or construed.
My best received lesson…
The best lesson I learned was that I should never complain. People who have much harder circumstances then we do are working much harder then I am and are happy about it.

Tip for future volunteers… (Clothing, travel, personal items, donations, sightseeing etc) Remember to bring long sleeves and long pants – black!!!!! Also, remember to bring a pair of closed toe shoes. You won’t need to bring any laundry soap, the cook’s daughter will wash your clothes if you ask her, but it doesn’t matter if you wash your clothes really… Also, if you bring plastic bags down with you, they recycle them there and Chila (the cook), crochets them into bags. It can make for an awesome donation.

Personal Paragraph (Testimonial) I’ve never experienced something quite as difficult and rewarding as my trip to Costa Rica. It’s impossible for anyone to understand exactly what we experienced without going and I’ll never experience anything remotely like it anywhere else.
